Actor's Gym - $10 drop by

This next Monday December 6th at 7pm, we will be meeting at the space below to work on cold reading and auditioning skills. The idea is having a low cost night set aside for "working out"--as actors. The focus will be on cold reading. There's nothing like practice! We can also work on other things, depending on what the group wants and brings in.

Class will only happen if a minimum of six let me know they are coming. And I need to hear at least 24 hours before class. If you are going to cancel, please respect a 24 hour notice deadline, as well. You can still drop in, if you have not signed up before the 24 hour deadline--as long as we are meeting :-) This deadline is for me to decide whether or not we are to meet.

I will have lots of sides to go through, but I would love it if folks brought their own to share with the group--especially commercial copy, as I am short on those. I have a few ideas on different exercises, but this will ultimately be up to the group--what serves us best.

Stay tuned for future meetings.

Let me know if you are coming by email: AcTed@att.net  Try to get cancelations to me 24 hours in advance. Last minute ads are cool...as long as we have gotten enough for that particular week to justify a meeting.

December Weekend Intensive

I will be teaching a weekend on camera intensive class Saturday and Sunday December 11-12. I am limiting this class to 8 people.

Although the weekend is planned as a whole, the Saturday class can serve as a stand alone experience. We will spend the day introducing you to the basics of on camera acting in theory but mostly in practice. Students will spend substantial time in front of the camera and then observing their work. Each actor will be practicing being present and trusting his/her instincts as they will be challenged with the adage "you are enough." Sunday will extend the class experience to a day of mock auditioning and "working on the set" as students play more extensively with their chosen scene. For the full 9 yards, both days are a must, but I realize this time of year it is difficult to give up both weekend days, so I am offering Saturday alone option. This will surely be fun hard work as you continue to move in the craft of on camera acting and in the challenge to let go and trust your instincts.

Logistics are below, and more detailed information will follow. Email me with questions, or if you are interested in signing up: acted@att.net

New Classes Starting Soon

I am offering two four week courses starting soon.
Auditioning and Career Building - for actors serious about moving forward in the business of acting - Tuesday nights at 6:30pm starting the 16th of November. This class was so successful that the previous group has opted to continue meeting and going forward with the work we started. Ask and I can put you n touch with previous students with their feedback.

On Wednesday the 17th, I will be teaching Introduction to on Camera. For that class, we will not meet the week of Thanksgiving.Details Below

Auditioning and Career Building (4 Weeks)
For actors serious about moving their business forward. Auditioning consistently well is the key to becoming a working actor. Since there is nothing like practice--aside from learning the techniques that will enable them to be consistent--students will be practicing auditioning/interviewing in each class. However, getting work as an actor involves more than just auditioning, so students will also be learning and practicing the tools needed to get them those auditions. The class will be looking at: career objectives and strategy, knowing their selling points, pictures and resumes and reels, networking, keeping up with contacts, getting an agent, appearance, etc.

A note: All classes will take a close look at “under five” auditions--due to the current need in Portland for actors capable of “nailing” the smaller roles in TV and film.

Introduction to On Camera (4 weeks)
This is a no nonsense approach to acting on camera. So much of what I needed to know before I began auditioning, I learned while doing. How much more work might I have gotten had I had a class like this before I started?--explaining in simple terms the dos and never ever dos of film and TV acting. We will spend time discussing acting approaches, but much of the work will be focused on the plain and simple techniques of successful on camera work. And as much time as possible will be spent in front of the camera--giving you the much needed experience that will give you a confidence in moving further on in the craft.

New Round of classes

To get them in before the holidays, I am starting up another round of two of my
classes--both four week sessions: Auditioning and Career Building, and
Introduction to On Camera. I will post days and times soon. However, I would
really like to give interested folks a chance to weigh in on time slots, as I
don't yet feel I have my finger on the pulse of things here. Time frames for me
are Monday morning - afternoon. Thursday and Friday afternoons, and Tuesday
evening. Those of you that might be interested in one of these classes, please
let me know your preference. I will also be needing an assistant for the
Audition and Career Building class, for half off the tuition.

My first class of the Audition and Career Building just finished and it was such
a success with the students, that we are going to continue to meet and keep the
good thing going. It is certainly a class for actors that are set on upping the
anti acting career wise. Along with the audition practice and training, we take
a serious approach to developing your business. If you are interested, I can put
you in contact with one of the students to give their perspective on the class.

The Intro class can be for actors who are wanting to cover the basics in on
camera work, and that can include stage actors that are wanting to make that
transition to camera work. Aside from discussion and practicing the nuts and
bolts of on camera acting (including auditioning), we slowly transition from
just being yourself in front of the camera to bringing yourself into the
character with scripted dialogue.

Both classes will be offered after the holidays, as well, in their ideal six
week form.
